Delftechniek uses Skwirrel to offer all products in the 2BA data pool — and to bring them to life in the Magento web shop afterwards. A down-to-earth Groningen story about data and convenience.
Skwirrel in use
Delftechniek uses Skwirrel to offer all products in the 2BA data pool. Skwirrel has built-in data exchange with 2BA via DICO files — Delftechniek exchanges trade information for approximately 600,000 items this way. Despite the volume, Skwirrel gives Delftechniek's buyers and staff the overview they need.
Magento web shop via Elgentos
All Delftechniek products are offered in the Magento web shop. The integration between Magento and Skwirrel was built by Elgentos from Groningen, with whom both Skwirrel and Delftechniek work closely. The integration uses Skwirrel's standard API — so product data from Skwirrel can be used directly in the shop. Product filtering in the shop is based on ETIM classification, which (when available) is fetched from 2BA.
The birth of grouped products
During the project, a question from Delftechniek led to a new Skwirrel feature: grouped products. It makes it possible to show similar products together in the web shop — think of the same product with a different packaging unit or a different manufacturer. Comparable products with the same features can also be added to a group. A welcome addition that became available to all other Skwirrel customers immediately after implementation.
Three-party collaboration
Skwirrel served as the collection source for all information, with data flowing in from multiple directions. It was therefore essential that collaboration between all parties ran smoothly. Together with Emiel Hendriks (Delftechniek) and Arjen Miedema (Elgentos), the project came to a well-functioning conclusion.
During the preliminary research for our new web-shop platform we soon realised a PIM system was needed. Unfortunately not all suppliers are standardizing their product data — while we see a clear trend towards ETIM among our customers. Reinventing the wheel with open-source didn't appeal to us. That's how Skwirrel came on our path. On one hand strict in use, on the other flexible enough to work quickly. The sober view on product data suits us Groningers just fine. The clever bits in Skwirrel even more so.
Sober and in order.
