Define your own attribute set. For products that don't fit a standard classification, or where you need to capture extra specifications that are critical for your market.
ETIM and GS1 are great standards — but sometimes you just need your own attribute. A specific characteristic that's only relevant in your industry or for your customers. Custom Classes give you that flexibility.
A Custom Class is not a free-text field — it's a structured attribute with a data type that matches what you want to capture. We support:
Four steps — from empty field to assigned product. The terminology appears 1-to-1 in the Classes menu (Dutch: Klassen) of the catalogue.
Go to Classes → New class. Give it a code and a name (e.g. Extra specs). A class is a set of related features.
Inside the class: Add feature. Pick an existing one or create a new (e.g. Color) and choose a data type.
For list-based features: Create a value. Code + description (green, RAL 6018). Reused everywhere once defined.
Open a product → Custom classes tab, find your class and fill in the values. Travels in every export, feed and API response.
Custom Classes are shipped along with other attributes to your webshop, data pool or customer feed. Filter and sort by them, use them in product-page templates, or send them as specifications to 2BA.

Custom Classes are for product lines that don't fit ETIM — for example a merchandising kit or a service product. For anything technical in the installation industry: stick with ETIM. Custom is an addition, not a replacement.
Yes. Features in a Custom Class can be shared with ETIM (e.g. a 'color' value list used in both). That prevents drift between 'orange' in your Custom and 'Orange' in ETIM. Per feature you define: type (text/numeric/value list), unit (mm, kg, etc.), required or optional.
Limited. 2BA only accepts ETIM-classified products. For Custom-only items you can still publish to your own webshop, to customers via custom feeds, or via the API. For 2BA publication we recommend a hybrid approach: classify with ETIM where possible, supplement with Custom for the unique aspects.
For customers with multi-tenant setups (e.g. a holding with multiple companies): yes. By default a Custom Class is tenant-bound, but export/import works. For trade associations that want to push a Custom Class to their members: get in touch, it's an interesting use case.
A simple class with 3-5 features takes ~10 minutes: create the class → add features with their data type → define values for list-based features → save. Then link it to a product via the Custom classes tab, fill in the values and you're done. No IT, no release cycle, no consultancy.
Yes — features and value lists are reusable across classes. Create 'Color (RAL)' once with its value list, and use it in both your Packaging class and your Marketing kit class. If you later change a value description, it propagates everywhere.
